Wednesday's Scoop: Olympics Viewings, Gay Comedy and Dating World

Prizes for "most spirited outfit" are now being given at the daily Olympics viewing parties in Plummer Park. A gay-themed comedy night offers laugh at the Improv. An author talks about getting back into the dating scene at Book Soup.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Wednesday, Aug. 1, the 214th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

The Olympics viewing parties for seniors at the are turning out to be a rousing success. Now those viewing parties are getting a bit more exciting as a prize will be given to the person dressed in the “most spirited outfit.” Whether cheering for the USA, a Russian athlete, a Mexican athlete, etc., the person wearing the team colors deemed “most spirited” that day wins the prize. The free viewings are daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gay Improv

Comedy improv nights are always fun, offering a chance to see new comic talent, as well as a few vets. on Melrose Avenue hosts a special gay-themed improv night, “Gays R. Us.” Part of the Improv Summer Spectacular, the laughs start at 8 p.m.

Dating Again at 45

The dating world can be a struggle at any age, but for author Marcy Miller, it was particularly rough. She was 45 and coming off an esteem-killing divorce, but also wanted to find her soul mate. Miller has lots of hilarious stories to tell in her new book, Rebooting in Beverly Hills: A Wise and Wild Path for Navigating the Dating World. Miller discusses and signs copies of her book at 7 p.m. at .

Transgender Board

The city’s Transgender Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. in . Items on the agenda include discussion of an incident at Micky’s and plans for the annual Day of Remembrance. The public is welcome to attend this meeting.
