Wednesday's Scoop: NBA Star, Obama Care, Storytime

NBA legend Larry Bird hosts a variety show at the Improv while a panel of experts explain the Affordable Heath Care Act at the National Council of Jewish Women. Plus storytimes at the West Hollywood Library.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Wednesday, August 22, the 235th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Bird Man

Larry Bird may be best known for his legendary NBA career with the Boston Celtics. But now he wants to be known as a variety show host. The hoops man is no longer shy, taking the stage to host the Larry Bird Variety Hour featuring comedians, dancers, a little big of singing and a clip wheel where audience members spin the wheel to determine which clip of Bird will be aired. The variety show starts at 10:30 p.m. at the .

The , 543 Fairfax Ave., hosts a panel discussion about the Affordable Health Care Act, explaining what it will and won’t do and what health care reform means to individuals. Panelists include a vice president of the Hospital Association of Southern California, a UCLA professor of public policy and a commissioner with the California Department of Insurance. The panel starts at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free.

Story Time

The hosts two different storytimes. At 11:15 a.m., a toddler storytime for ages 18 to 36 months gets underway with stories, songs, fingerplay and more. Then at 3:30 p.m., a family storytime is offered for children and their parents. Both are free.

  • Margate with Act As If and Luna Is Honey at the Roxy Theatre. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
