Wednesday's Scoop: Desert Nights, High Kicks and Misfit Sideshow Cabaret

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Wednesday in West Hollywood:

Pat Thomas Book Signing

The noted music producer and scholar is coming to at 7 p.m. to discuss his provocative collection of African-American cultural history, Listen, Whitey!: The Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975. The author event description states: "While befriending members of the Black Panther Party, Thomas discovered rare recordings of speeches, interviews, and music by noted activists."

Desert Nights

The weekly gathering at the showcases musicians in an intimate “living room” type setting hosted by KCRW’s DJ Valida. This week, don’t miss folksy performances by Marnie Herald, Justine Bennett and Brandon Mayer. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Cactus Lounge. Entrance is free.

High Kicks

The new art and music series continues this evening at the hotel's Skybar. Glam-rock talent Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons will man the turntables beginning at 9 p.m. This poolside affair also showcases pieces from world renowned street artists from the LABArt gallery. Transgender Advisory Board Meeting

The advisory board is meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Conference Room at City Hall. On the agenda is a discussion of the WorkSource Center TG Outreach Pilot Project's first quarter results, a calendar of transgender special events, a subcommittee about bullying, gender change laws, and Pride week. Their next meeting is set for Wednesday, May 2 on sterilization laws in Sweden.

Misfit Sideshow Cabaret

Rebel Music TV is presenting a punk rock variety show this evening at the Viper Room, featuring performances by White Flag Down, Black Monday, Dirty Filthy Mugs, plus burlesque teases by Cinnamon Britches, Tara Misioux and a special performance by The Freakshow Deluxe. Doors open 7:30 p.m. Tickets to this 21-and-older show are only $10.

The Forecast

The National Weather Service forecasts sunny and mostly clear, with a high near 73 and a low around 50. West Hollywood will see north wind around 5 miles per hour becoming south southwest.
