Wednesday's Scoop:Clooney & Pitt, Denim, Poetry and Tacos

A British journalist performs a one-man show about his showbiz encounters while a Hispanic writer talks about Mexican food in America and poets read from Ray Bradbury. Plus wear blue jeans for Denim Day.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Wednesday, April 25, the 116th day of 2012. Here’s what’s happening in West Hollywood today.

Residents are encouraged to wear blue jeans in honor of the annual Denim Day observance designed to raise awareness about rape and sexual violence perpetrated against women and men, girls and boys around the world. City Hall will host a gathering with speakers and info tables at 9:30 a.m.

Board Meetings

The Senior Advisory Board will meet at 2 p.m. in the Community Conference Room in City Hall. That board will discuss plans to tour the Project Angel Food kitchen and social services facility at 922 Vine Street. The Disabilities Advisory Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Community Conference Room in City Hall. That board will hear a report on a proposed ordinance to make reasonable accommodations to housing for people living with disabilities. Both meetings are open to the public.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt

British journalist Sandro Monetti spent years covering showbiz for the UK media. Now, he’s spilling the beans about his many superstar encounters in an uproarious one-man show. Clooney, Cowell, Pitt and Me: Amusing Encounters with the A-List plays at the Lyric Theatre, 520 N. La Brea (near Melrose) tonight and Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The show is part of the BritWeek annual celebration of British culture and talent in California. Click here to purchase tickets.

As part of the city’s Big Read 2012 honoring Ray Bradbury’s classic novel Fahrenheit 451, a group of poets including Steven Reigns will read from Bradbury’s poetry. “Doing is Being: A Reading of Ray Bradbury’s Poetry” is at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the . The event is free and open to the public.  

Tacos!

Nationally syndicated columnist and bestselling author of ¡Ask a Mexican! Gustavo Arellano’s new book Taco USA! offers an entertaining and tasty trip through the history and culture of Mexican food in America. Arellano discusses and signs copies of the book at 7 p.m. at Book Soup. Free and open to the public.
