Wednesday's Scoop: City Commissions to Consider New Parking Credits Program

An ordinance to count the number of spaces available in an area, then sell parking credits to businesses in order to meet zoning code requirements, is on the joint Commission meeting agenda.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Wednesday in West Hollywood:

Main Event: Public Safety and Transportation Commissions Joint Meeting

Both Commissions are meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Conference Room at City Hall to discuss the proposed , which would allegedly eliminate the need for private transactions and leasing spaces. The Commissions recommend that the City Council introduce for first reading an ordinance creating a parking credits program and designating parking credits districts, according to the agenda.

Is your wallet feeling a little lighter post-Valentine’s Day? Brent Mendoza recommends stopping by for a free music showcase in the hotel’s intimate Cactus Lounge. Hosted by KCRW DJ Valida, this week’s lineup includes sets from roots and indie rock artists Chris Laterzo, Shane Alexander and David Serby. The music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Also Today: Wednesday Night Social Club

Recreational Club “Time Presses” will host The Golden Voices – Belcanto, karaoke singing, movies, potluck food and an opportunity to communicate in Russian and English languages from 6:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. in Great Hall at . The event is co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood and the City of West Hollywood’s Russian Advisory Board.

Reminder: 

The president will land at LAX around 3 p.m. and will be flown by helicopter to the Veterans Administration. Around 5 p.m., his motorcade will pass through Westwood, likely on Sunset or Wilshire boulevards, to Holmby Hills for a fundraising event at the home of soap opera star Bradley Bell. Road closures have not been announced yet, but traffic is expected to be a little lighter than usual.

The Forecast: Rain

There is a 50 percent chance of showers today, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures in West Hollywood during the day will reach near 61, and drop to a low of around 45. There is a 20 percent chance of showers before 10 p.m. Winds could gust as high as 25 miles per hour.
