InkSlam

West Hollywood becomes the epicenter of the national spoken word universe as inkSlam gets underway. Dubbed. “L.A.’s Premier Poetry Festival, the four-day inkSlam features poetry workshops, panel discussions, showcases and competitive “slams.” Today’s events include a writing workshop with actor/writer Michael Kearns at 5 p.m., Mahogany Browne’s one-woman show “Black Girls Don’t Smile Mosaic” at 8 p.m. and showcase performances by multiple artists at 10 p.m. All events take place at the , 544 N. 1350 Hayworth

The city will hold a public meeting to get input for the 1350 Hayworth Avenue project. The City Council previously , saying the proposed four-story modern building did not fit the character of block. The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. in .

Lesbian Discussion Group

“Dating to Mating” is the discussion topic for the third meeting of “SHE,” the new lesbian discussion group. Designed to provide an open space to build relationships, engage in dialogue and find creative solutions for issues currently facing lesbians, the group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room in the . Free.

Charitable Laughs

The hosts a special night of laughs benefiting three charitable groups: (1) LA Crime Stoppers which operate a tip-line for citizens reporting crimes, (2) St. Michael's Catholic School's Gang Intervention Program working with youth in South Central LA and (3) St. John's Seminary which educates priests and lay ministry. Actor/comic Fred Willard hosts the evening that includes comics Fritz Coleman, Wendy Liebman, The Great Omar, Jimmy Brogan and Sister Rose Pacatte, plus LA County Sheriff Lee Baca. Showtime is 8 p.m. with a special advance reception at 7 p.m.
