Thursday's Scoop: Tim Allen, Fairfax Bands and Sidewalk CPR

Comic Tim Allen returns to his stand-up roots for a show at the Laugh Factory while the bands from Fairfax High School and Laurel Span School offer their spring concert. Plus, learn Sidewalk CPR in 10 minutes.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Thursday, June 7, the 159th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Buzz Lightyear and Tim Taylor

What do Buzz Lightyear, Santa Claus and Tim ‘The Toolman’ Taylor all have in common? Actor/comedian Tim Allen, who returns to his stand-up roots for a show at the . Once you see Allen on stage, you’ll understand why he became a star. He’s joined by Erik Rivera and Dinah Leffert. Showtime is 8 p.m.

The four bands/orchestras from Fairfax High School and the two bands from the Laurel Span School offer their final concert of the school year. Among the selections the various bands will perform are the “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” the Overture from the “Magic Flute” and “Sonatina” by Mozart, plus selections from the motion picture Avatar. All of the bands performing are conducted by Fairfax and Laurel’s band director Ray Vizcarra. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.

Sidewalk CPR

Learn how to conduct CPR in 10 minutes. Members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department will be on hand from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., demonstrating how to conduct CPR. The technique being demonstrated is bystander (“sidewalk”) CPR, which is hands only; no special equipment involved. Statistics show that only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from bystanders because many people are afraid they might do something wrong. Interested residents should just show up at Great Hall in and the firemen will instruct each person individually. The quick demonstration is free.

Planning Commission

It’s a light agenda for the Planning Commission’s meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber in . The Commission will hear two zone text amendments. The first deals with airspace subdivisions in residential buildings, an item primarily concerned with separating the common areas in residential portions of mixed-use buildings from the common areas in commercial portions. The second concerns providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities.

  • Brianna Conroy with Jane Carrey, Dinner with a Suit, Kyss Major, Enjulliet and the Moon Shines at the Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 7:15 p.m.
  • The Sindicate with Inhale and Goldman Rockstar Kin at the Whisky a Go Go. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Theresa Andersson with Mwahaha at the Troubadour. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Labrinth with DJ Phenom at the Viper Room. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
