Sunday's Scoop: New Laws, Parking Rules and Tree Recycling

As you tidy up your place from last night's celebration, keep in mind that trash will not be collected today in West Hollywood.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening New Year's Day in West Hollywood:

In observance of New Year's Day, parking meters and associated time limits, as well as peak hour towing restrictions on Sunday, Jan. 1 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 will not be enforced, the city says. Permit parking will be enforced however on Sunday and Monday, and when the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 2, all rules are back in full force. Street sweeping will occur as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

New Laws:

There are a lot of new laws coming into play in California on Jan. 1, including a bill that protects same-sex spouses and domestic partners of nursing home residents and another that curbs "excessive and automatic" pay increases to local officials. And don't forget about . All new California laws take effect today.

Tree Recycling: 

The city of West Hollywood is offering free Christmas tree recycling until Jan. 14. Just place your tree at the curb for collection on your regular trash day. The city is asking residents to remove all decorations and the tree's base. Do not place your tree in a plastic bag. Doing so can prevent your tree from being recycled and/or picked up. 

The Forecast:

New Year's Day will be sunny with clear skies in West Hollywood. The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 81, with a low around 56. Wind will be between 5 and 10 mph.
