Sunday's Scoop: Pride, Pride and More Pride

The Pride Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, the Pride Festival is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with Alec Mapa, Karmin, Dev and Jessica Sutta among the performers. Plus road closures in the area.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Sunday, June 10, the 162nd day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Everybody Loves a Parade

On the day that would have been Judy Garland’s 90th birthday, the 42nd annual LA Pride parade kicks off. The parade, which was originally on Hollywood Boulevard but moved to Weho in 1979, steps off from Crescent Heights Boulevard at 11 a.m. and travels west on Santa Monica Boulevard, ending at Robertson Boulevard. The parade usually lasts two to three hours. Actress Molly Ringwald is the grand marshal. 400,000 people are expected for the parade which will be broadcast live on Weho Cable City Channel 10 or webcast at LAPRIDE.org/webcast.

Everybody Loves a Festival

Comic Alec Mapa, pop duo Karmin, pop singer Jessica Sutta and indie pop singer Dev are four of the featured entertainers for the second day of the LA Pride festival in . The festival is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with lots of activities, dance tents, vendor booths, prizes and giveaways, plus a water park featuring a Titanic water slide. Mapa performs at 3:30 p.m.; Sutta at 6:30 p.m.; Karmin at 7:30 p.m. and Dev at 9:30 p.m. Many other singers are scheduled throughout the day. Admission to the festival is $20, available at the gate.

Santa Monica Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Doheny Drive will be closed to traffic for the annual pride parade from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crescent Heights Boulevard between Romaine Street and Fountain Avenue will also be closed during those same hours. That’s in addition to San Vicente Boulevard between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, which is closed until Monday morning for the Pride festival.

  • “Knocked Off Your Ass Summer Kickoff” with AFTER, Circuit Assassins, Erbes & Pederson, the Hush and Delta Rose at Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Daniel Licht (composer of music for TV series Dexter) at Largo. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Scattered Hamlet with Beelzebubba and Troutwine at Whisky a Go Go. Show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Dredg with Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross and Stolen Babies at Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 8 p.m.
