Sunday's Scoop: Jazz Concert, Catalog Living and Comics

A jazz ensemble plays in Kings Road Park as part of the Summer Sounds concert series. Meanwhile comedian-writer Molly Erdman signs copies of her new book and African-American comics offer plenty of laughs.

Jazz in the Park

The Louie Cruz Beltran Latin Jazz Ensemble performs as part of the city’s 2012 Summer Sounds concert series. Known for an extensive repertoire of Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms, the ensemble blends R&B, salsa, reggae, Latin, rock and jazz for a unique show not to be missed. Showtime is 4 p.m. in , 1000 N. Kings Road. Admission is free.

Living by Catalog

Ever flipped through the pages of a Pottery Barn catalog and wondered, “Who lives that way?” Writer/comedian Molly Erdman did and the result is a hilarious new book about a superficial couple living in an over-decorated apartment. An alum of the Second City improve comedy troupe, Erdman discusses and signs copies of her book, Catalog Living at Its Most Absurd: Decorating Takes (Wicker) Balls, at 4 p.m. at .

African-American Comics

It’s a night of laughs by the area’s leading African-American comics as the hosts its Chocolate Sundeas night. Comic Esau McGraw & Ron G host the evening that frequently brings out some surprise guests. Showtime is at 8 and 10 p.m.

  • Enation with Cartoon Lion, The Cold Chills and Cadence at Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 7:15 p.m.
  • Mark Ballas (from Dancing with the Stars) with Dave Eleven, Gantez Warrior, Molly’s World and  Indian Burn at the Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Frank Blanks with Rookie of the Year and Ery at Whisky a Go Go. Doors open at 8 p.m.
  • Secret Sundayz at Key Club. Show starts at 10 p.m.
