Saturday's Scoop: 'MisMatch Game,' Shakespeare and Authors

"The MisMatch Game" parodies TV's beloved '70s game show, "Match Game." Meanwhile "The Merchant of Venice" plays in Kings Road Park and a local author signs his book at Book Soup.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Saturday, August 4, the 217th day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Dumb Dora Is So Dumb . . .

Match Game was so much fun it made me want to blank. Match Game lives on as the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center offers a loving parody of the 1970s game show. Dennis Hensley hosts “The MisMatch Game” joined by six local actors impersonating various celebs. The panel starts filling in the blanks at 8 p.m. in the Renberg Theatre in the Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 McCadden Place.

Shakespeare in the Park

Take a bit of thwarted romance, add in some cross-dressing, secret identities, witty wordplay and a healthy dose of overall silliness and you’ve got the makings of a great play. In this case, the great play is Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. The Classical Lab Theater performs the beloved play as part of the city’s Shakespeare in the Park series. The comedy plays today-Sunday at 4 p.m. in . Admission is free.

Two Authors

has a double header today. West Hollywood resident Felice Picano has just released his fourth short story collection, Twelve O’Clock Tales featuring 11 stories including ones about a teen accident survivor with a secret, a future scholar forced to travel to a galactic backwater and a retired L.A. cop who dabbles in astrology. Joining him is Rob Rosen author of Queerwolf, a comic adventure featuring a gay werewolf in some sexy situations. Picano and Rosen discuss and sign copies of their book starting at 2 p.m.
