Saturday's Scoop: Kim Coles, Staged Readings and Gallery Opening

Actress Kim Coles, best known for the TV series Living Single, has seen the top and the bottom. She has a lot to say about both in her new one-woman autobiographical show “Oh But Wait, There’s More!” Coles performs at 8 p.m. in the Renberg Theater at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place.

The Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights presents the 4th Annual Gay & Lesbian Play Reading Festival featuring the full-length play “In the Name of the Son” by Brian Raine. The reading is at 11 a.m. at the , 7051 Santa Monica Boulevard. Admission is free.

The hosts an opening reception at 11 a.m. for ``Amanda Ross Ho: Teeny Tiny Woman.'' The exhibit features 17 wall panels created by Ho that are the collective equivalent of the interior measurements of her downtown studio, then transferred them to her studio space. The exhibit shows through Sept. 23
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center presents its annual ``Life Out Loud'' block party from 4-8 p.m. on the backlot of Paramount Studios' New York Street. ``Bully'' director Lee Hirsch and LifeWorks member Justin Charles Gonzales will be honored. Highlights include live musical performances, a Hot Wheels racetrack, body art, food trucks and cocktails. Proceeds benefit the center's LifeWorks youth program.
The city’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission sponsors a discussion and workshop concerning staged readings adapted from public testimony. Using such documentary plays at “The Laramie Project,” “Beyond Brokeback” and the recent ‘8,’ this workshop shows how powerful real life testimony can be for creating compelling drama. The discussion is at 2 p.m. in the Community Room at . Admission is free.
Witness an illuminating conversation between French poet/artist/filmmaker Jean Cocteau and French author Colette, whose public persona paralleled her sensual yet realistic works. Jason Jenn as Cocteau and R. SKY Palkowitz as Colette star in “Cocteau and Colette at The Grand Véfour” by William Emboden. The staged reading is at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at the
