In 2011, the LA Pride festivities expanded by a day, adding a Friday night component to the traditional Saturday-Sunday actvities. 

That Friday night event was called the Purple Party: A Celebration of Women. It proved so successful, LA Pride decided to make it an annual event.

This year's Purple Party in West Hollywood Park proved even bigger and better than the first one. Since it was free, it attracted thousands of women, and men, to help start their Pride weekend celebration.

The Purple Party was preceeded by the down Santa Monca Boulevard.
