Monday's Scoop: Carlos Mencia and a New 'Wife'

Comics Carlos Mencia and Alex Reymundo tell jokes to benefit disabled veterans at The Comedy Store. Meanwhile author Gigi Levangie Grazer presents her latest novel, "The After Wife," at Book Soup.

Laughs for Disabled Vets

Comedians Carlos Mencia, best known for TV’s “Mind of Mencia,” and Alex Reymundo, seen on Ron White’s “Salute to the Troops,” tell jokes to help out disabled veterans in a special show at the The show is a benefit for the Mobility Works Foundation and the Disabled American Veterans. Showtime is 9 p.m.

New ‘Wife’

Gigi Levangie Grazer, wife of producer Brian Grazer, came to prominence with her best-selling novel, The Starter Wife, which was adapted into a TV series starring Debra Messing. Now Grazer is back with a new “wife,” The After Wife. This novel deals with a 40-something widow who must rebuild her life, her finances and save her home after her husband’s unexpected death. Grazer discusses and signs copies of The After Wife at 7 p.m. at .

Historic Preservation

The city’s Historic Preservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Community Center in . One of the items on the agenda is designating a craftsmen style single-family home at 1125 Formosa Avenue as a “cultural resource.” The public is welcome to attend.

's north parking is the place to get some of the freshest fruits and vegetables currently in season as the weekly farmers’ market gathers there from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. It’s always a great place to stock up on locally grown foods, plus start up chats with interesting people.

  • Walk the Moon at the Key Club. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.
  • Steel Panther with Phil X & The Drills and Hey You at House of Blues. Doors open at 9 p.m., show at 9:30 p.m.
