The city's Mayor Pro Tem offers his condolences and locals raise their glasses to the actress at her 'favorite pub.'

West Hollywood supporters and city officials mourned the loss of Elizabeth Taylor on Wednesday. The British-born, Oscar-winning actress died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of congestive heart failure. She was 79.

"During a time when no one of prominence would address the fear and growing concerns about HIV and AIDS, particularly President Ronald Reagan, Elizabeth Taylor showed unique courage and leadership and used her celebrity to fight the disease and find a cure," Mayor John Duran, who is one of the few HIV-positive elected officials in the country, said to members of the press at .

Taylor was a tireless campaigner in the battle against AIDS, and set up the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. "It became her life's cause. Those of us still here will continue her life's work," said Duran.
