Friday's Scoop: Judy, Richard and Fred

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Friday, April 20, the 111th day of 2012. Here’s what’s happening in West Hollywood today.

Judy at Carnegie Hall and French Market

It may have been 51 years since Judy Garland performed her legendary concert at Carnegie Hall, but here’s your chance to relive the show as part of the French Market Showroom’s ! Garland tribute artist Peter Mac doesn’t just don makeup, wig and dress to impersonate Garland, he becomes her. This weekend and next, Mac will be recreating the Carnegie Hall concert. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Sexy Frisbee

Fred Karger, the nation’s first openly gay Republican Presidential candidate, has a launch party for his new campaign commercial, set to start airing next week. “Sexy Frisbee,” which was filmed on Venice Beach, will air as a 30-second commercial, but a longer version will be screened at the launch party at Eleven Nightclub in Boystown from 8-10 p.m. Karger expects the video to go viral.

Laughing with Lewis

Comedian Richard Lewis goes to therapy to get fodder for his stand-up routines. He cracks up audiences enough to earn a spot on Comedy Central’s list of the top 50 stand-up comedians of all time. Here’s a chance to catch Lewis in a rare intimate show as he performs at Largo at the Coronet Theater. He’s joined by the Denny Seiwell Trio (Seiwell is best know as the drummer in Paul McCartney and Wings). Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

It’s your last chance to vote for your favorite of the three murals on the parking deck beside West Hollywood Library in Weho Patch’s . Vote by 5 p.m. for “Peace Elephant” by Shepard Fairey, the fusion of cartoon characters by Kenny Scharf or the stylized version of a Salman Rushdie quote by RETNA (Marquis Lewis). The winner will be announced on Saturday.
