Friday's Scoop: Peter Mac, Jon Brion and Real McKenzies

Drag artist Peter Mac impersonates Judy and more at the French Market. Singer/songwriter Jon Brion is back for his monthly show at Largo and the Real McKenzies play Celtic punk at the House of Blues.

Judy, Liza, Mae and Kate plus Tallulah

Drag artist Peter Mac has made a name for himself impersonating Judy Garland in his weekend cabaret shows. But who knew he had an even more expansive repertoire than the beloved Judy? Turns out, he can also do Liza Minnelli, Mae West, Katharine Hepburn and even Tallulah Bankhead. Check out the show Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m. at the

Brion at Largo

Largo staple Jon Brion is back for his monthly appearance. With an avid following, this music producer (artists ranging from Kanye West to Aimee Mann to Rufus Wainwright) and film composer (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) also plays piano, guitar, bass and drums as well as sings during his shows, amazing audiences with his versatility. Brion’s show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Celtic Punk Band

Fusing musical styles is commonplace, but here’s one fusion that few would have expected. Vancouver-based band The Real McKenzies performs Celtic punk. They write and perform their own songs, plus play traditional Scottish songs with a punk-infused sound that is hard to get out of your head once you’ve heard it. The Real McKenzies come to the for a 9 p.m. show.

  • K'noup & Kelly with Savannah Van Band, Uncle Daddy, Wicker, Marc Robillard and Satellite at the Troubadour. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • Special C with The Originalite, Eternal Mind Control and Lost Any Way at the Viper Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
  • La Tina Webb with Less Than One, Taylor Green, Hot Sauce and Savanah Ostler at Roxy Theatre. Show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Clockwork Orange at Key Club. Show starts at 10:30 p.m.
