It's Oscar Time: Celebrities Prep With Plastic Surgery For Awards Show

In Hollywood it's no secret that celebrities run to their plastic surgeon to get some nips and tucks. Dr. Marc Mani reveals what procedures work best before the Oscars.

The secret's out, as celebrities are known to get some nips and tucks before the Oscars. It may be one of the biggest nights of their careers so naturally actors and actresses need to maintain and retain their famous looks a little longer. A well-known Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Marc Mani treats many famous celebrities who schedule in some much needed tweaking of their faces before the big night. On red carpets and at the award ceremony, lighting is good but not as "friendly" as it can be in the actual movies.  So stars need as much help as they can to keep their faces and bodies looking youthful.

"I do have a significant amount of extra work on celebrities before the Oscars. The Harmonic lift, which is a cheek and jawline lift using ultrasonic technology, is one popular procedure. With it I'm able to get a dramatic, yet very natural facial rejuvenation result with only about 2 to 3 weeks of downtime.

There is also more demand for larger procedures like neck and jowl lifts, and new technology allows this to be done closer and closer to award time.  Harmonic or ultrasonic technology allows the surgical work with two weeks recovery before going into public and four weeks to be "camera-ready.

New laser skin tightening procedures are also very popular for a last minute pre-Oscar touch-up. The infrared technique I use tightens facial skin to take off a couple of years of facial aging in less than half an hour, with no downtime. Many Oscar nominees also come in for facial fillers and Botox right before the ceremony.  Smaller procedures like injectable fillers and Botox can be done up to a few days prior to the ceremony. We have to be conservative with the Botox, though - so they still look surprised when they win,” says, Dr. Mani.

Stars who seem ageless but natural, where people may wonder, "how do they stay looking so young," have likely had tasteful and artfully-done facial work ranging from facial fat transfer to facelifts.  Plastic surgery is an art form so the best plastic surgeons who take care of this very demanding patient group are very talented artists.  Some of them like Dr. Mani in their spare time paint and sculpt so that not all of their artistry has to be a well-kept secret.
