Health & Fitness

From the field to the fork

Personal Trainer of the week – John Petrelli

John Petrelli has been a Certified Personal Trainer for over twenty years and his passion for fitness stemmed from his high school days as a “little kid with a big mouth.” Being a late bloomer and avid athlete, he felt the need to excel athletically and later developed a keen interest in the human body. He came from a family of teachers who surrounded him with a desire to help others live a happy and healthy life and took to training like a fish to water, or in his case, to his fishing pole.

The veteran trainer’s own pursuit of good health lends to his love for the outdoors. He’s a fisherman and hunter who lives by the code, “from the field to the fork,” with nearly ninety percent of his meals coming from hunting with his compound bow, to fishing, to his organic garden. His dedication to healthy living shows in his commitment to his clients and the light in his eyes when he says, “Energy is life. Like the seed that grows into the plant that animals eat and into the meat that humans eat.”

John moved to California at twenty one and went to school to learn more about health and human movement. He holds advanced certifications from the American Council on Exercise and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Petrelli also obtained his black belt from Bill “Sugar foot” Wallace at eighteen and has since trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga and Boxing.

After being featured in multiple issues of Men’s Health and Men’s Fitness, John Petrelli was approached to work with the NFL, Team Kawasaki Moto Cross, Bel Air Hotel and Four Seasons Beverly Hills to name a few.

John refers to his family when asked what keeps him in the game after so many years. He often thinks of his two year old son and how he hopes to instil the same natural sense of self and health into his clients as he offers to his family. He also donates his services to children’s organizations, wounded warriors and individuals living with disabilities and his greatest pleasure comes from being able to empower his clients to nourish their minds, bodies and souls with healthy lifestyles.
