BLOG: Film About Skid Row Artists Seeks Community Help

HUMBLE BEAUTY: SKID ROW ARTISTS is an inspiring documentary that tells the story of Skid Row residents who turned their lives around through art. This amazing L.A. story needs YOUR help to air on PBS!

Film lovers unite! Here's your chance to help bring an amazing, transformational documentary to a broader audience.

HUMBLE BEAUTY: SKID ROW ARTISTS is the powerful true story of how art saved the lives of a group of talented homeless and very indigent men and women — fine arts painters — in the worst area of L.A. known as Skid Row. It’s also about the ubiquity of art in human life—art is everywhere. People will make art, no matter how humble the circumstances. In return, art transforms lives.

The film is finished! It aired on KCET, public TV in L.A. and it has been very well reviewed— 5 out of 5 stars on FilmThreat.com and recommended by both Library Journal and other national publications. It’s won awards at festivals and competitions. It’s an L.A. story ready to go national.

Now we need your help! HUMBLE BEAUTY has been offered national distribution on PBS stations, to debut this fall. This is the Holy Grail for documentaries and it rarely happens. It would be a dream-come-true to share this inspirational, empowering story of art changing lives with millions of viewers across America.

But we can’t do this alone. PBS is not compensating the filmmakers—all of them local residents—or covering any of the many expenses involved in re-editing HUMBLE BEAUTY to conform to their format. With your help, we can do it together! Please donate to our IndieGogo campaign to bring this memorable, life-changing film to a wider audience. All contributions are tax deductible thanks to our non-profit fiscal sponsor, From The Heart Productions. We have plenty of goodies as an enticement, including artwork by several Skid Row artists.

Please help us bring this incredible Los Angeles story to a nationwide audience! Our deadline is September 15. Will you help us spread the word and reach our goal?
