Why West Hollywood should re-elect Mayor Jeff Prang and Councilmember John Duran.

West Hollywood is the place I’ve been proud to call my home for close to twenty years, and the leadership of the City Council members is a big reason why. As a gay woman, I continue to live, work, and play in this small city with a big heart because it’s one of the safest and most progressive places in the country. The consistent and compassionate leadership of City Council, including two candidates running for re-election this Tuesday – Mayor Jeff Prang and Councilmember John Duran – have made WeHo a beacon for municipal responsibility, fairness, and success.

Jeff and John have a long and impressive record championing policies that have secured a Triple-A bond rating for the city, no easy feat in these recessionary times. This robust fiscal health has real implications, affording the city the ability to provide incredible services for people living with HIV/AIDS, seniors, and members of our Russian community. As an out lesbian, I’m grateful that many of our surplus dollars are spent on Breast Cancer awareness, programs for teens and tots, and a whole host of services for women of all ages. Whether you’re LGBT or straight, a new resident or long-term citizen, Jeff and John have provided opportunity for our eclectic community of artists and entrepreneurs while always dedicating resources for animal welfare, additional parking, historic preservation, and most importantly, protecting the neediest among us.

This coming Tuesday, March 5th, we residents have a choice to make – an important election is upon us that will impact the stability and security of our city for years to come. I hope you will join me in supporting Jeff and John, two leaders whose energy, enthusiasm, and vast experience has helped make West Hollywood a shining example of economic prosperity and social freedom.
