Sunday's Scoop: Earth Day Workouts and Bike Rides

Earth Day, began 42 years ago, is today with a special Workout Fair at Bristol Farms, plus a family bike ride through town. Latin pop sensations OV7 are also playing at the House of Blues.

Greeting and welcome to the Daily Scoop. Today is Sunday, April 22, the 113th day of 2012. Here’s what’s happening in West Hollywood today.

In honor of Earth Day, Bristol Farms grocery store on Beverly Blvd (at Doheny) is hosting a Healthy Lifestyle and Workout Fair. Celebrity trainer Dion Jackson will demonstrate various workout routines including yoga, kickbox cardio, kettlebell and zumba. The purpose of the demonstrations, Jackson says, is to show “how fun being healthy and fit can be.” Food demonstrations will also be included. The Workout Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Biking for Earth Day

Save the planet and get some exercise too. The West Hollywood Bicycle Coalition, a group working to improve the city’s biking infrastructure, is sponsoring a family-friendly, five-mile bike ride in honor of Earth Day. The ride departs West Hollywood Park at 11:30 a.m., then goes to Plummer Park to pick up more riders before heading to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Wilshire Blvd.

Orchids and Outlets

Take a day trip to Carlsbad to shop for orchids at the Carlsbad Ranch and Flower Field, followed by lunch at the Ocean House Restaurant and shopping at the Carlsbad Outlet Stores. The City of West Hollywood is sponsoring this bus trip, leaving from Plummer Park at 8:30 a.m. Cost of the trip is $50.

Latin pop group

OV7, a Latin pop group from Mexico with several hits on the Latin American singles charts, performs at the House of Blues. Formed in 1989, OV7 went on to great success in the 1990s, only to disband in 2003. The group reunited in 2010 and has seen its popularity soar. The all-ages show starts at 9 p.m.
