Saturday's Scoop: L.A. Women's International Film Festival Kicks off in Weho

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Saturday in West Hollywood:

Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival

The 8th annual film festival and symposium, funded in part by a grant from the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, will take place Saturday, Mar. 24 through Thursday, Mar. 29 in the Community Meeting Room at the new West Hollywood Library. Artists' Tower of Protest Closing Reception

LA><Art and the City of West Hollywood are presenting a closing reception for the Artists' Tower of Protest by Mark di Suvero. Meet the curator, participating artists, and City officials between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the Sunset Strip
between Hammond and Hilldale. Celebrate the important work one last time before it is dismantled and returned to the artist's studio.

The City of West Hollywood and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles will conduct a low cost clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at . The fee for microchips at the clinic is $25 for cats and dogs. Rabies vaccinations are $5 for cats and dogs.  DHPP, FVRCP and Leukemia vaccinations are $15 and Bordetella vaccinations are $10. In addition, de-worming will cost $25.

Planned Power Outage

Southern California Edison has scheduled to splice conductor and install fusing near the intersection at Beverly and San Vicente boulevard. The power outage is specific to 235 customers on nearby streets (Huntley, Norwich, Sherbourne, Rosewood, Westbourne and Melrose) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Deputies will deploy to direct traffic at the intersection. Duff McKagan Book Signing

The Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver legend is stopping by Book Soup at 4 p.m. for a signing and discussion about It’s So Easy: And Other Lies. In his tell-all memoir (now in paperback for $15.99), McKagan recounts GN’R’s unlikely trajectory to a string of multiplatinum albums, sold-out stadium concerts, and global acclaim.

The Forecast

The National Weather Service forecasts patchy fog before 11 a.m., otherwise mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny. Temperatures are expected to reach near 70 in West Hollywood, dropping to a low around 52. Expect calm wind and increasing clouds by the end of the day.
