Monday's Scoop: Musical Mondays, Laughing at Death

The weekly Musical Mondays is at Eleven nightclub while various authors find humor in sorrow at Book Soup. Plus the Public Safety Commission meets.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Monday, June 10, the 163rd day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Celebrate all things musical at in Boystown. Each Monday from 9 p.m. to midnight, Eleven hosts Musical Mondays celebrating Broadway and Hollywood musicals. The night features audience sing-alongs to musical clips playing on screen as well as singing contests. Sometimes, groups of people will act out entire numbers (a la Rocky Horror Picture Show). Just like the musicals themselves, Musical Mondays will always leave you smiling.

No Laughing Matter

Few people can find humor in death, but a group of authors has managed to do just that with the new book, Exit Laughing: How Humor Takes the Sting Out of Death. Reminding that there can be a place for laughter amidst the tears, the 24 authors contributing to this collection share anecdotes about how humor can be a part of the grieving process. Authors Victoria Zackheim, Leon Whiteson, Aviva Layton, Jenny Rough, Richard McKenzie and Amy Ferris will be on hand to discuss the book and sign copies of at starting at 7 p.m.

Farmers' Market Closed

The City of West Hollywood’s Helen Albert Certified Farmer’s Market is closed today. No reason was given for the closure, but the weekly market featuring organic and farm-fresh fruits and vegetables will be open for business again next Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its usual location in the north parking lot in .

Public Safety Commission

The Public Safety Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. in . Agenda items include discussion of 2012 public safety outreach program and posting of anti-cruising signs in the streets south of Santa Monica Boulevard. The public is welcome to attend.
