Faux Spiritual Guru

Much like Borat before him, filmmaker Vikram Gandhi posed as a spiritual guru, setting up shop as a yoga master in Phoenix and filming the interactions with the flock of people who came to him. Different from Borat, after a time Gandhi then revealed himself to the flock as a fraud. The result is a hilarious yet also moving documentary named Kumare which won the Audience Award at South by Southwest in 2011. The Silent Movie Theatre, 611 Fairfax Ave. offers Kumare for a one-week run, the director appearing for a Q&A following many of the screenings.
