Hollywood Temple Beth El Opens its “Booth of Peace” to the Community

Hollywood Temple Beth El and the Iranian American Jewish Center invite the community to join in celebration of the Fall Festival of Thanksgiving, Sukkoth, as it opens it “Sukkath Shalom”, Booth of Peace, on Thursday evening, September 19, at 7:00 PM. Members of the public are invited to bring their own picnic dinner ( dairy or vegetarian, in respect of Jewish dietary observances) and join in a brief service, good stories and song.

Sukkoth wraps up the Jewish religious season that began with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and celebrates the physical
bounties with which we have been blessed. One of the hallmarks of the festival is sitting in a temporary structure with simple branches for a roof, the Sukkah ( in English, Booth or Tabernacle), indicating dwelling under the God’s shelter of peace. It recalls the tradition that the Priests of the Temple of Ancient Jerusalem prayed for the peace and well-being of all humanity at this season.

The historic West Hollywood synagogue reflects a multi-cultural tradition, as the participants themselves reflect traditions of Persia, Eastern Europe and North Africa with a contemporary American melange.
