Week in Review: Weho to Go Fur Free, Centrum Sunset Back to Drawing Board

This week in West Hollywood, the city observed the repeal of ", a tentative agreement was reached to and the before the grand opening Oct. 1.

Monday night, the City Council , making West Hollywood the first city in the nation to ban the sale of apparel containing animal fur. On Thursday, the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to Mayor John Duran and the four other City Council members urging them The Chamber sited statistics saying 46 percent of clothing retailers in the city (approximately 90 stores) sell fur.

The City Council also sent the controversial The panel was concerned that the three-story, 52,000-square-foot development slated for the old Tower Records site was too big for the property. Council members also said the project did not have adequate parking and would impact traffic on the already gridlocked Sunset Strip.

Stars came out in after the 63rd annual Emmy Awards. Among the celebs in town were Heidi Klum and husband Seal, Jeremy Piven of Entourage with series producer Mark Wahlberg and True Blood actors Anna Paquin and husband Stephen Moyer.

In our Neighborhood Viewfinder, The Abbey was transformed into a Winter Wonderland on Monday evening, complete with a red carpet blanketed in “snow,” hunky Santas and go-go-dancing elves. The event, co-hosted by Beverly Hills Real Housewife Adrienne Maloof and Abbey owner David Cooley, collected more than 500 toys for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Next weekend will feature events for book lovers. The Grand Opening and Dedication of the new West Hollywood Library is set for Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next day, the 10th annual West Hollywood Book Fair happens in West Hollywood Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
