Week in Review: Plastic Bag Ban, Rainbow Crosswalks and Centrum Sunset

The City Council unanimously approves a ban on plastic bags and also unanimously approves making the rainbow colored crosswalks permanent. The Council also rejects the last incarnation of the Centrum Sunset project.

At 8711 Melrose Avenue (at San Vicente Boulevard), a three-story, 23,000 square foot building designed for retail and wholesale showroom space was approved on a 5-0 vote. At 8564-8590 Melrose Avenue (at Westmount Drive), a 30,000 square foot showroom building with Restoration Hardware as its main tenant was approved on a 3-2 vote.

The City Council unanimously approved making the Originally intended just for Gay Pride month, the crosswalks have proven popular and will help brand the city as an LGBT tourist destination.

Political blogger Steve Martin discussed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s choice of Martin said the selection is causing Ryan to overshadow Romney, making it a race between Obama and Ryan.

Blogger Chloe Ross discussed ideas about the city’s due to go into effect in September 2013. Ross said she believed in the spirit of the ban but does not think it is in the best interests of business, especially in the continuing economic slump the nation is experiencing.
