Week in Review: City Hall Credit Cards, Subway Extensions and Prang's Workplace

Also 1,500 lose power Wednesday afternoon.

This week in West Hollywood, Mayor Jeff Prang’s “day job” working for embattled LA County Assessor John Noguez was a subject of discussion, while news came that the DA’s inquiry into the possible misuse of the city’s credit cards by City Hall employees was still underway. Meanwhile the Purple Line of the LA subway system got the green light to tunnel west.

The beleaguered Los Angeles County Assessor’s office, which has been the subject of an LA County District Attorney’s investigation into corruption and influence peddling, The West Hollywood connection to the story is that Mayor Jeff Prang began working as a special assistant to Assessor John Noguez in March. Prang is not a subject in the investigation and assured Weho residents that he was hired to help “enhance the public integrity and transparency of the office.”

The DA’s raid left several Weho Patch commenters wondering what the status was of the DA’s inquiry into allegations of credit card misuse by some Weho City Hall employees. . A DA’s office spokesperson declined to elaborate further.

Almost 1,500 residents living in the West Hollywood West area bounded by La Cienega, Beverly, San Vicente and Santa Monica boulevards due to downed power lines caused by palm fronds falling on the wires. Power was restored to the last of the homes at 2:41 a.m. on Thursday.

Censorship is the topic of a panel discussion on Monday night at the West Hollywood Library. “Censorship Today and the Enduring Legacy of Fahrenheit 451” is the final of the city’s Big Read 2012 events. 

The Planning Commission will hear a plan for the El Mirador apartment building on Fountain Avenue at Sweetzer to renovate and become an urban inn or a condominium complex at its Thursday night meeting. Also on that agenda will be a discussion about the automated parking structure scheduled to be built behind City Hall.
