Tuesday's Scoop: Supervisors to Honor Shervin Lalezary for Arrest in Arson

County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky to recognize the West Hollywood sheriff's volunteer reserve deputy for apprehending L.A. arson suspect Harry Burkhart.

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Tuesday in West Hollywood:

Main Event: Shervin Lalezary Presentation

Reserve sheriff's deputy Shervin Lalezary will be honored at the regular meeting of the county Board of Supervisors in downtown Los Angeles this morning for "his quick-witted and skillful ," according to the agenda. Harry Burkhart, 24, was arrested Jan. 2 following a string of more than 50 fires in the Los Angeles area. The meeting is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. in board hearing room 381B of Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple St. Lalezary's presentation is the ninth scheduled.

Other Happenings:

  • is holding DoSomething.org and Aeropostale's fifth annual Teens for Jeans campaign, hosted by actress Kristen Bell at 5 p.m. Teens who donate gently worn pairs of jeans will receive 25 percent off the price of a new pair. Donations will be distributed to homeless shelters throughout the nation. Expected attendees include MTV veejay Damien Fahey, Julianne Hough, Glee's Lauren Potter, and more. 
  • The city's Human Services Commission will receive a report on state services for seniors living with disabilities issued by UCLA's Center for Health Policy and the SCAN Foundation, and consider staff recommendations for funding augmentations to AIDS Project Los Angeles and Friends Research Institute for increased substance abuse treatment services in Weho at 6 p.m. in the Community Conference Room at .
  • The West Hollywood Woman and Books Club meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room. The reading selection for January is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Admission is free. For more information, call 213-840-4958.
