Tuesday's Scoop: Jackson Browne, Lambda Literary Book Club

Rocker Jackson Browne disucsses his career at Largo while the Lambda Literary Book Club holds its monthly book discussion at the Weho Library.

Greetings and welcome to City Scoop. Today is Tuesday, August 28, the 241st day of 2012. Here’s what’s going on in West Hollywood today.

Doctor My Eyes

He may have had over four decades in the music business, but singer Jackson Browne is far from “running on empty.” He proves he’s not “the pretender,” as he’s got plenty of tales to tell from girls down on “the boulevard” to “lawyers in love.” Browne sits down with Jeff Garlin to discuss his life and career at starting at 9 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Success Through the Arts Foundation, which offers an alternative to drugs and gang life to school age kids in South Los Angeles.

LGBT Book Club

The Unreal Life of Sergey Nabokov: A Novel by Paul Elliott Russell, will be discussed at this month’s Lambda Literary Book Club gathering. A historical novel based on the life of the gay brother of Vladimir Nabokov, the book tells the story of a boy who grew up in a wealthy family in pre-revolutionary Russia who went on to be educated at Cambridge University and later joined the Parisian salon of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. The monthly Lambda Literary Book Club meets 7-8:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library.

Women and the Talmud

The Talmud may be one of the most sacred texts of Judaism, but some argue it takes a decidedly male point of view. Author Maggie Anton tackles that dichotomy in her new novel, Rav Hisda's Daughter, Book I: Apprentice: A Novel of Love, the Talmud, and Sorcery. Based on actual Talmud texts and populated with rabbis and their families, Rav Hisda's Daughter brings the world of the Talmud to life from a woman's perspective. Anton discusses and signs copies of her book at 7 p.m. at .
