Weho Sheriff's Station to Take-Back Prescription Drugs

Residents can drop off expired or unused prescriptions, and other controlled substances, at the local station on Oct. 29.

Residents can safely dispose of unused and expired medications at the on Saturday, authorities said Friday.

Twenty-one participating stations from Los Angeles County Sheriff's and Police Departments will hold drop-off disposal depots as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency's National Take-Back Day.

The program allows residents to safely and anonymously drop off expired or unused prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, syringes and any other controlled substances, according to the Sheriff's Department. Flushing medicines down the drain can affect wildlife and interfere with wastewater treatment plants.

Sheriff's Department stations accept prescription medications for disposal 24 hours a day throughout the year, in addition to Saturday's event. Last year, the department collected and disposed of 8,055 pounds of medications, 288,010 syringes and 3.75 pounds of illicit drugs, according to the Sheriff's Department.
