November is the month to give up shaving for a good cause. Men who refrain from tending their facial hair and join the Movember movement of proud mustache wearers can help raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.
According to the Washington Post, Movember is the male equivalent of the Pink Ribbon fundraising for a breast cancer cure. It raises money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Lance Armstrong Foundation and other charities that support men's health.
So welcome to Movember. The name of this group, according to the Los Angeles Times, was coined by an Australian and riffs on the Aussie slang word for a mustache, a "mo." In any event, whether you love facial hair or loathe it, mustache season is officially open.
