Monday's Scoop: Centrum Sunset Project Back on Council Agenda

City Council will also discuss a proposal to reduce the size of mixed-use developments and upgrade rent-controlled housing in West Hollywood.

City Council Meeting

There are a number of big-ticket items on tonight's City Council agenda, including a continued public hearing to consider a 47,504-square-foot commercial development containing retail, gym/spa and office space at 8801 Sunset Blvd. and Councilman John D'Amico's proposal to revise the municipal code provisions related to the payment of on-site affordable housing in lieu fees. Doing so will "create safer, healthier living environments and reduce the size and impact of overly large new construction on our commercial streets and neighborhoods," according to the staff report. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The housing item on tonights Council agenda is brilliant. It’s a big step toward preserving our historic buildings, aging housing stock and protecting residents. Click on the staff report. The most interesting thing is that a couple of Council members keep stating that we have a desperate need for housing and have to meet State requirements. The actual numbers required by the State through 2021 are in the staff report: Currently, the required numbers for the City of West Hollywood in the October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2021 cycle are as follows: Number of Very Low Income Units Required: 19 Number of Low Income Units Required: 12 Number of Moderate Income Units Required: 13 Number of Above Moderate Income Units Required: 33 Total Number of Units Required: 77
