Fairey's "Peace Elephant" Wins Reader's Choice Poll

Readers cast their votes for their favorite of the three library murals. Shepard Fairey's "Peace Elephant" on the west wall of the library parking deck took top honors.

Shepard Fairey’s “Peace Elephant” is the winner of which asked Patch readers to choose their favorite of the three library murals.

Voting was light this week as only 40 votes were cast in the poll. But Fairey won the top spot with 57 percent of the votes. Coming in second was Kenny Scharf’s fusion of cartoon characters with 25 percent of the votes, while RETNA’s (Marquis Lewis) stylized rendition of a Salman Rushdie quote got 17 percent.

Fairey came to national prominence during the 2008 Presedential election thanks to his Obama “Hope” poster. His “Peace Elephant” on the west wall of the library parking deck was a continuation of the recurring theme of peace in his art work since the Iraq war began.
