The Palms Closes in West Hollywood

The building that houses the Palms is set to be demolished.

The Palms Bar, West Hollywood's only lesbian bar, officially closed its doors Sunday.

The building that houses the Palms is set to be demolished to make way for mixed-use development along Santa Monica Boulevard.

The bar posted a message on Facebook the day after its closing:

We are deeply saddened by the closure of and tearing down of such an institution that we call the Palms, but when one door closes another opens. Thank you for your patronage throughout the years!
In a Facebook post Tuesday, the Palms said, "we continue to move forward, and even as we consider a reopen."
There is a tiny party of us who have worked there over the years, a sliver in the back of our minds, past the due date of the next bill or the car in front of us driving at 15 mph a little sadness is there that will creep up ever so often knowing that wishing on a star or even clicking our ruby red shoes will never quite bring us home again.
