The Abbey Re-Introduces 'Chick-for-Gay' Sandwich to Support AFER

100-percent of the proceeds from the sale of the sandwich will support the American Foundation for Equal Rights, who this week will be in Washington as the Supreme Court hears two cases regarding same-sex marriage.

Among the groups that will be on hand to submit testimony is the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), and they'll be getting some backup from The Abbey in West Hollywood.

The Abbey on Monday announced the reintroduction of their Chick-for-Gay Sandwich. Proceeds from the sale of the seasoned, boneless chicken breast served on a toasted buttered bun with pickles will be donated to AFER.

The sandwich first debuted in August of 2012, in response to the public controversy touched off by the anti-gay comments made by Chick-fil-A Chief Operating Officers Dan Cathy. The comments came on the heels of the revelation that Chick-Fil-A's charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation, had donated millions to anti-LGBT organizations.

While gay marriage opponents flocked to the chicken shop to support Cathy, and others held kiss-ins in support of same-sex marriage, Abbey owner David Cooley introduced the Chick-for-Gay as way to provide a financial boost to AFER.

"If corporations have the right to spend unlimited amounts of money on an agenda of hate, we as an LGBT business community have to spend money supporting Marriage Equality," Cooley told The Huffington Post in August.
