'Serve the City L.A.' Offers Hope to Those in Need

The annual event aims to bring people together to help others.

Serving the city is the goal this weekend for a multi-faith organization.

"Hope for L.A," an organization which is an offshoot of Pacific Crossroads Church, is gearing up for its fifth annual volunteer day known as "Serve the City L.A."

The event will take place on Saturday and aims to bring together local churches as well as individuals from around the city to volunteer their time for the greater good, according to "Hope for L.A." director David Kleinknecht.

"L.A. is a pretty disconnected city and serving is a way of getting to know your city and getting to know some of the needs in the city, and so I think it’s important to know and to care for the city that you live in,” Kleinknecht said.

More than 1,700 people showed up to volunteer last year, he said.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, July 27, is a time for individuals and church groups to come together and commit their time to volunteer projects which include everything from serving breakfast to the homeless to cleaning up debris in neighborhoods and painting classrooms.

While about 30 churches around Los Angeles, will be participating anyone can volunteer whether they are affiliated with a church or not, according to Kleinknecht.
