Red O Wins Architectural Award

The Mexican fine-dining restaurant wins a Retail Award, one of 33 projects honored by the Los Angeles Architectural Awards.

Red O Restaurant in West Hollywood was honored Wednesday at the Los Angeles Architectural Awards, hosted by the LA Business Council. The project was cited for its role in making the region more beautiful while helping to boost its economy and creative edge.

Opened in 2010, the restaurant at 8155 Melrose Avenue by Chicago chef Rick Bayless features authentic Mexican cuisine and lighter California fare. Bayless has written several cookbooks and served as host of the 26-part PBS series Cooking Mexican.

won the Retail Award, one of 33 stand-out building projects honored as premier examples of the region’s cutting-edge design. The awards were handed out at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton.

The Award Description for Red O reads:

“Red O blends an interior and exterior experience. Influenced by the Mexican Riviera, it boasts the largest retractable skylight in Los Angeles. The fine-dining establishment includes main dining, bar areas and tequila tunnel leading to the lounge area. The exterior assembly symbolizes a tree, concept that is present throughout the restaurant. Not only has Red O improved aesthetic appeal along Melrose Avenue, it has boosted the area’s economy as well.”
