Photo Gallery: Guitar Town

A new public arts project features more than 25 10-foot-tall guitars strategically placed along the Sunset Strip.

A gathering of proud and talented artists unveiled Guitar Town on Thursday at the Sunset Strip. Guitar Town is a new public art display that features 26 ten-foot-tall fiberglass guitars.  The art installations represent the music, culture, art, and the beauty of the Sunset Strip.

The Gibson guitar sculptures were created by local and nationally acclaimed artists as a way to celebrate musicians or personalities that are unique to the Sunset Strip's history.

Elizabeth Merritt Kong, 20, from Riverside, was the youngest artist to display her work. She called her display "The Conscious Mind."

To create these larger than life sculptures artists utilized materials ranging from tile, glass, paint and even roofing materials. Each artist had three weeks to complete their design.

Artist Nic Adams says that his "Prince of Darkness" influence came from the infamous rock star Ozzy Osbourne. Adams model guitar is now on display in front of The Comedy Store.

You can easily explore these incredible and detailed works of art as you pass through the 1.6-mile-long stretch of the Sunset Strip.

Gibson's Guitar Town will be on display for the next six months before being auctioned off at a gala. All proceeds will benefit nonprofit organizations and various charities. Nic Adams says his "Prince of Darkness" display will be auctioned off to benefit the "LA Youth Network." www.layn.org
