Gay-Rights Activists Stage Protest at Target

A small group of demonstrators held up signs and requested refunds from Target on Saturday.

A small group of demonstrators gathered outside the Target located on Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue on Saturday afternoon to protest the recent donation the Target Corporation made to a political group.

Gay-rights activists have continued to boycott the company after Target Corporation donated $150,000 to a political group called Minnesota Forward. The group backs pro-business candidates in statewide races, including a Republican candidate for governor, Tom Emmer, who opposes same-sex marriage. Target Chief Executive Officer Gregg Steinhafel has since issued an apology.

Pictures were sent to West Hollywood Patch with people holding up signs and their refund receipts. Racked LA reports demonstrators will purchase an item with their credit card and then immediately request a refund--costing Target $3 to $5 per transaction.

Target manager Hilda Doushgouian said she only knew of a few people demonstrating outside and said the store was calm. Doushgouian couldn't comment on how many people had requested refunds, but said the store was operating normally.
