Laemmle Theatres to Vacate Sunset 5

The theatre operator is unable to renew the lease and Sundance Cinemas is scheduled to take over Dec. 1.

The L.A. Times reports Laemmle Theatres will move out of the Sunset 5 on Sunset Boulevard near Crescent Heights.

The theatre operator, popular for its programming of independent films, was "unable to come to terms with the landlord on a new lease."

Laemmle will vacate the theatre at the end of the month and Robert Redford's Sundance Cinemas will take over. The theatre will temporarily close for a renovation and plans to reopen in late spring.
