La Cienega Windows Pay Homage to Legendary Artists

More than 30 retailers are featuring vignettes by top designers inspired by their favorite artists.

Strolling along La Cienega Avenue between Santa Monica and Beverly boulevards this weekend may feel like a pop-up art exhibit. That's because 34 members of the Los Angeles’ La Cienega Design Quarter are paying tribute to celebrated artists for Legends of La Cienega 2011: Celebrate Art

Begin your walking tour at (719 N. La Cienega Blvd.) for a vibrant display by Kim Alexandriuk, named one of the "125 Top Designers in the U.S." by House Beautiful magazine.

Then head to (711 N. La Cienega Blvd.) for designer Cliff Fong's very red scene, featuring a life-size female figure lounging on a crimson divan. "I think it is absolutely brilliant. I love it," retail owner Patrick Dragonette said of his shop's eye-catching display. "I think it sings!'

End the tour at  (843 N. La Cienega Blvd.) for a pastel painting brought to life, complete with a real-life Ethiopian goddess perched in front.

La Cienega Design Quarter retailer members will also host a variety of open houses and panel discussions open to the public for free through Sunday.

I've never believed you can teach an actor. Yes, they need technique - it is innate inside... It is why I can watch Cate Blanchett, over, and over. My face reads poorly when asked by a working, "Non - Actor" .. How was my performance?.. I want to say run - Please find another profession. Artist, just are. Fact.. I have had the pleasure to watchPeggy Platner at work. An empty canvas - taking in a new room, walking with a rhythm all unto her own. Her head her head tilts, as she listens to the client speak... The occasional uh-mm, as to be clear she listening, as Peggy is walking with her client through a new project. A quiet, powerful, knowing woman. I see her mind clicking in lightning speed. In the stillness of motion. Peggy is A Natural Talent. Peggy Platner's Interior Design shaping a vision in the industry.
