Greenblatt's Deli Serves Wine on Tap

Taste wines from around the world at the longtime LA staple.

A Los Angeles establishment since 1926, offers 28 wines on tap for tasting plus a vast selection of hand-selected bottles from around the world.

Step inside the red brick building, nestled between a UPS Store and the on Sunset Boulevard, and into Greenblatt's cozy interior. It's filled with comfortable booths for dining in, a brightly lit deli counter laden with cured meats, cheeses, and delicate pastries, and an array of top-notch wines. All of the bottles are hand-selected and neatly labeled with tasting notes and prices, making them accessible even to the novice wine drinker.

But the wine shop is just the beginning. Greenblatt's has over 28 wines on tap for tasting. They are stored behind the counter in a Cruvinet, a state-of-the-art machine that preserves the wines with nitrogen and keeps them fresh for up to six weeks. While the selection on tap rotates about every three weeks, the wines are always top-notch.

This week's offerings included a crisp French Rose (Domaine le Galantin 2010), a creamy Sauvignon Blanc from the Sonoma Coast (Schug 2009), an intense and unfiltered Pinot Noir from Oregon (Broadly Vineyards 2009), and a spicy Spanish Tempranillo (Finca Allende Rioja 2005). These are just four of the over 20 wines available on tap. All of them are served in Spiegelau glasses suited to the varietal in order enhance the properties of each wine.

One of the best and most casual wine tasting experiences in Los Angeles, enjoy a glass of wine at a booth, along with charcutierie and cheese from the deli. Or better yet, select a bottle from the wine shop to drink in the restaurant for the shelf price plus $5.95. This is one of the best wine deals in Los Angeles. These bottles at any other eatery would be almost double in price due to markups.

In addition to their cured meats and cheese, Greenblatt's also offers an extensive menu of sandwiches, soups, salads, pastries, and other deli staples. While the food isn't complex, it sure taste delicious. Even better, they are open 365 days a year until 2 a.m.
