Sunset Strip Picks of the Week: Julien-K, Sarah Silverman and Johnny Cash Tribute

Enjoy some boot stompin' music at the Roxy, gospel and jazz at Whisky A Go-Go, and a little hair of the dog at Duke's this week on the Sunset Strip.

Witness the boot stompin’ throwback sound of one of L.A.’s most buzzed about bands on Tuesday, Jan. 17 as the presents folk rock sextet the Silent Comedy. Rounding out the bill are Taylor Locke and the Roughs, Races and DJ Kevin Bronson. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $12. www.theroxyonsunset.com

Make plans to return to on Wednesday, Jan. 18 for the third and final showing of anti-establishment institution NOFX. Wish the a happy birthday this week, as the 48-year-old venue hosts legendary gospel and jazz drummer Teddy Campbell and his band on Thursday, Jan. 19. A staple of both The Tonight Show and American Idol bands, Campbell -- whose credits also include work with jazz greats Herbie Hancock and Al Jarreau, as well as Stevie Wonder and Kelly Clarkson -- will take the stage for an energetic set that includes a full horns section. The invites you to multitask while “laughing your ass off” and supporting a good cause this Friday, Jan. 20 at an all-star show and benefit raising funds for Josh Adam Meyers and the family of Angelo Bowers. Both friends and regular Sunset Strip comedians were involved in a deadly car accident on Jan. 2 when a drunk driver hit the Jeep they were driving.

Bowers passed away following the crash, and while Meyers survived the accident, he and his family face growing medical and legal costs. The benefit will celebrate the memory of Bowers and feature performances from Sarah Silverman, Jeff Garlin, Chris D’Elia, Melissa Vilasenor and Bobby Lee among others. The full $20 ticket price will be donated to help offset the medical costs for both Meyers and Bowers. And for those lounging on the “west” side of The Strip this Friday, Jan. 21, stop by the for a hootenanny featuring Cash’d Out. Paying homage to the "Man in Black,” this tribute band performs spot-on renditions of all your favorite Johnny Cash hits. PICK OF THE WEEK: Saturday, Jan. 21, the presents Julien-K along with I Will Never Be The Same and Battle Tapes.
