Thursday's Scoop: 5 Ways to Observe World AIDS Day in West Hollywood
West Hollywood is commemorating the day with a 24-hour electronic memorial, an awards reception, a free screening, and more.
Thursday marks World AIDS Day, which has been recognized every year on Dec. 1 since 1988. In West Hollywood, there are a number of ways to raise awareness.
1. AIDSWatch: In association with World AIDS Day, West Hollywood’s Citychannel 10 will air for 24 continuous hours a list of names of people that have died of HIV/AIDS. To submit a name or for more information about AIDSWatch, log on to www.aidswatch.org.
2. 11th Annual Paul Starke Warrior Awards: A breakfast reception will be held at the West Hollywood Library Community Room, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to recognize employees or volunteers that have made important contributions in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

3. ONE AIDS Memorial Project: To celebrate the launch of the project and to honor lives lost, the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives located at 909 W. Adams Blvd. is hosting a special program, They Were Among Us: Reflection on 30 Years of the AIDS Epidemic, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are required at www.oneworldaidsday.org.
4. HIV @ 30: The LA Gay & Lesbian Center is co-sponsoring a free screening with AIDS Research Alliance at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the Center's Renberg Theatre, located at 1125 N. McCadden Pl. in nearby Hollywood.

5. Art Walk: The community is also invited to participate in an exhibit at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The show will feature artwork by HIV-positive artists, as well as a DJ, refreshments and free HIV testing.
Information about HIV/AIDS services, along with a panel of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, will be on display in the lobby at .
