If I Could, You Know I Would Write a Song About West Hollywood

Weho Marketing and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring a contest to write a song about West Hollywood. Song must contain the words 'West Hollywood' and capture the spirit, the essence, the mood of the city.

ATTENTION: songwriters and wannabe songwriters.

WANTED: One song inspired by West Hollywood. Can be about a specific location within the city (a store, club, gym, hotel, etc) or can be about general areas/places in town (the Sunset Strip, Boystown, etc.). Song must contain the words “West Hollywood.” Song must capture the mood, the essence, the spirit, the zeitgeist of West Hollywood.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the West Hollywood Marketing and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring the song-writing contest with the winner receiving $5,000 in cash and prizes. The Times also includes helpful suggestions for words that rhyme with other Weho-related places.

Entries must not only include the song lyrics, but a video of the song being performed as well. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, July 18 at 5 p.m.

Contestants must live in the United States, Canada, Australia or the United Kingdom.

The best song will be selected quickly as the grand-prize winner will be flown to West Hollywood for the Sunset Strip Music Festival, held Aug. 16-18.

The winner will receive $1,000 in cash, a four-night stay at the Sunset Marquis Hotel, VIP access to the Sunset Strip Music Festival, tickets to the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theater, a VIP tour of Los Angeles and a “rock-star makeover.”

Second place winner receives $500 while the third place winner gets $250.

So put on those creative hats, rhyme if you’ve got the time and help immortalize West Hollywood in song!
