City Offers Cooling Center for Seniors

The Senior Lounge in the Plummer Park Community Center is now open as a place for seniors to escape the heat and humidity and cool off.

With high heat and humidity kicking in across Southern California in the past few days, the city has opened a Cooling Center for seniors. The Cooling Center is located in the Senior Lounge in the .

The Senior Lounge is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Prolonged exposure to the heat can not only make the weather uncomfortable for seniors, it can make it dangerous as seniors can be especially susceptible to heat exhaustion and sunstroke. That’s why it’s important to take precautions to keep as cool as possible throughout the warm summer months.

The Cooling Center is available for quiet activities. Seniors are encouraged to bring books or board games with them to the Cooling Center. For more information regarding the Cooling Center, please call Plummer Park at (323) 848-6530.
