Thursday's Scoop: 'Peace Tower' Restaging Begins on the Sunset Strip

Greetings, and welcome to today's City Scoop. Here's what's happening Thursday in West Hollywood:

Main Event:

If you happen to drive by an 58-foot steel tetrahedron tower surrounded by hundreds of art panels on the Sunset Strip today, stop and take a look. The City of West Hollywood is helping to restage sculptor Mark di Suvero's monumental work from 1966 in a vacant lot at Sunset and Hilldale. It was originally mounted at Sunset and La Cienega as a Vietnam War protest. The Peace Tower is being re-created to start a dialogue about the role of arts activism today, according to the Pacific Standard Time description.

City Meetings:

• There is an Urban Arts Subcommittee Meeting set for 5 p.m. in the Rent Stabilization Hearings Room. Check out the agenda here.
• An anticipated Planning Commission Meeting is taking place at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the new West Hollywood Library. The agenda includes a public hearing for a mixed-use development at 8120 Santa Monica Blvd. Check back for the full story.

Other Happenings:

• A group of educators and representatives from local nonprofit organizations, law enforcement agencies and various L.A. County government agencies will meet to discuss programs and services for children and youth in a Children’s Round Table Meeting from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Community Conference Room at City Hall.

The Forecast:

• The National Weather Service forecasts sunny, with a high near 66, calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. The evening's forecast is mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.
