Slash Rocks Into West Hollywood

A tribute to the Guns N' Roses guitarist Thursday at the House of Blues kicks off the Sunset Strip Music Festival.

The Sunset Strip Music Festival kicked off Thursday night in West Hollywood. A special tribute was held at the House of Blues to honor Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash for his contributions to the history of the Sunset Strip and the music industry.

The city of West Hollywood also declared Thursday as "Slash Day."

Band members of Motorcade and Warner Drive as well as other local musicians walked the red carpet. Slash, with his infamous top hat, also walked it.

The event included speakers and video tributes from Slash's close friends, a presentation from West Hollywood and a live performance celebrating the rocker.

Slash will perform Aug. 28 at the Sunset Strip Street Fest, when Sunset Boulevard--between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard--will be closed to traffic so artists can perform on two outdoor stages and in the venues throughout the day
